We're KINK3D, and we're thrilled to be Recon's Locktober sponsor for 2024! If you're already familiar with our work, there are a couple very different opinions that some of you might have:

1. Thanks for the amazing chastity cages! You've made the experience of locking up so much better.

2. Stop locking away all those gorgeous penises! Doesn't every cock want to be free?

In this article, we're going to cover a lot of ground about chastity, and maybe even provide an answer to that very reasonable question. (No surprise that we think, actually, many cocks can't wait to be caged…)

Chastity Explained

What makes chastity such an alluring kink that it's exploded in the fetish world over the past few years? There are many aspects and we can only scratch the surface, but here are a few of the top reasons from our perspective:

First, for chastity fans, being in a massively horny state is a great place to be, in and of itself. In fact "chastity" is a bit of a misleading name for this particular kink. In the fetish world, chastity isn't about the medieval or Victorian idea of having your sexual side repressed. Quite the opposite. By locking away the penis and denying orgasms, chastity play builds up arousal to higher and higher levels.

Along the way, many people find that they start to be eager to explore new kinks that they hadn't even fantasized about before. So if you want to repress someone's sexuality, chastity might be one of the worst ways to go about it!

Next, chastity makes for an incredible addition to dom/sub dynamics. It's sexy, kinky, and intimate, all at the same time. If your dom locks you in a cage and holds onto the key, it'll be a reminder throughout the day of the connection you share. By physically locking away the penis, chastity also serves as a powerful symbol of the sub's role as a pleasure-giver rather than a pleasure-receiver.

Plus, caging can be hot and valuable even when having sex outside of a dom/sub relationship. We talk to bottoms all the time who love wearing their cage for a hookup, because it naturally puts the attention on their mouth and their hole. It can even double as a way to prevent bait and switch scenarios where someone promises that they want to top and then tries to flip the script when they show up. If you're caged, you can't be rudely pressured into switching!

Lastly, much like puppy hoods, harnesses, and other forms of leather gear, chastity has a huge overlap with the world of erotic fashion. Many of us are gear fetishists and just love to dress up, especially in gear that has a strong aura of bondage to it. Cages are a way to accessorize, and they have the bonus that they can be worn as a naughty secret throughout the day. We have customers ranging from airline pilots, to investment bankers, to ER nurses, to construction workers, to active duty military, who all wear their KINK3D Cobra or Viper cage on the job. We love that chastity can bring so much pleasure to such a wide diversity of people on a daily basis.

Myths About Chastity

Myth: If you lock up regularly, your penis will shrink.

Nope! Some chastity fans love to fantasize about shrinkage. After all, kinks like feminization, nullification, and small penis humiliation are very popular. But caging isn't going to permanently alter your penis size.

Myth: If you get a tight enough cage, it will be inescapable.

For many chastity enthusiasts, the dream is to be inescapably locked. No pulling out, no cheating, no orgasms. Totally helpless, constantly denied and horny. But the reality is different. For any device that works by trapping the balls (and that's decently suitable for long-term wear), you're going to be able to pull out if you really try. The penis is an extraordinary escape artist. But that doesn't mean there's no point to locking. Having a cage on is still hugely arousing for a lot of fans, for all the reasons we talked about above. Plus the cage prevents you from automatically touching yourself — you need to put in some effort to slip yourself out — and sometimes that brief obstacle is all you need to interrupt a moment of weakness. We think of chastity as a tool that helps to make self-discipline easier.

Plus, if you've got a piercing such as a PA, you can use it to physically lock your penis to the cage. And that will provide an (almost) inescapable home for your penis.

As for orgasms, some people may struggle to cum in their cage, but others can still achieve orgasm with a vibrator, anal play, or other methods such as hypnosis. So just because you're locked, doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to cum. Whether you're allowed to cum is a separate question, and one that we will leave to you and your keyholder!

Myth: Only subs and bottoms like to lock.

Far from it! While it's true that many subs and bottoms love chastity, the whole picture is much more complex. In our experience, kinksters of all stripes enjoy wearing cages. In fact there are self-identified Doms and Tops who absolutely love to lock, because it's very enjoyable to build up their sexual energy to a high peak, and then release it on a bottom or sub. Not to mention all the gear fetishists who love wearing something kinky and constraining as part of their outfit (or as their entire outfit, as thousands of Locktober photos will prove!). In other words, chastity can fit with a wide variety of sexual roles and identities.

Let's Talk Cages

Here's where we'll give a quick intro to different types of cages, including our products.

Common chastity cages come in many forms and materials, from stainless steel, to injection-molded plastic, to stretchy silicone. Cages are such a personal thing that just about every style out there has its loyal fans. Traditionally, plastic cages have been lighter and more enclosed, whereas metal cages have been heavier — so you're really aware that you're locked at all times — and can range from fully enclosed to a "birdcage" style with thin bars.

At KINK3D, our Cobra and Viper cages are made in the USA from 3Dprinted nylon, and processed with an advanced vapor smoothing technology. We think of them as having the best of both worlds of metal and plastic — they're insanely light, easy to keep clean, and almost indestructible (unless your dog gets hold of it as a chew toy… which is one of the more common failure modes we hear about). Unlike plastic cages with glued-together parts, they also have no seams or rough spots. We know customers who've worn the same Cobra cage almost nonstop, day in and day out, for over 3 years.

We design all our products with form and function equally in mind. We know how much chastity can be about identity and self-expression, so we're always trying to produce cages that look great and make people feel good about their bodies. On the functional side, we aim for comfort, easy hygiene, and offering enough sizes that most people can find something to fit their anatomy really well.

As of this Locktober, we have 37 cage sizes and 24 ring sizes, meaning our lineup has 888 unique size combinations. So we think we're doing a pretty good job of covering the anatomical bases. That said, we're always working hard to develop and test new models.

Cage Sizing

Our first piece of advice is: Don't go too big! Some people imagine they'll need a cage with a lot of room to grow for erections, and that is almost always not correct in our experience. People are generally happiest when the cage fits their flaccid size, with some gentle compression. We also constantly tell people who are getting into chastity not to be discouraged if your first cage isn't a perfect fit. Cage sizing is extremely tricky, no matter how you go about it. In fact people who get a hole in one and nail their "forever cage" on the first try are very rare. You may try out several different brands, styles, and sizes, before finding one that works really well for you. For some cages, you might be able to resell ones that don't fit quite right (for example we host a Reddit community just for this), but we also know a lot of people who enjoy building up their collection over time. That way they are prepared to lock up whoever comes over to their house :)

Most of our customers order online, but if you have the opportunity to try on cages in person at a store or event, or if you've got a friend with some cages to share, we'd highly encourage that. It'll give you the best chance of honing in on a proper size.

Say hello

Speaking of events, we love to connect with the chastity community. We're easy to find on Reddit, Twitter/X, email, and other platforms, and we're always expanding the list of stores and events that we visit in person. Don't be shy.

Wishing you a happy and horny #Locktober!
