Recon asks members to support World AIDS Day 2007.

from Recon News

30 June 2009

December 1st is World Aids Day, and Recon is hoping to beat last year’s total of £6754 by raising at least £10,000 ($20,000, €15,000) for HIV and Aids charities across the world.

Around 40m people are living with HIV worldwide and that number increases every day. World Aids Day is an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV and Aids.

Together we can stop the spread of HIV and end prejudice.

Recon members are again being invited to buy a virtual red ribbon (minimum donation £2.50, $5, €3.70 approx) which will be displayed on their profile and against their name on the ‘who’s online’ list. The proceeds from each ribbon sale will be donated to Aids charities around the world.

As per last year, for the first 2,000 members who buy a ribbon, Recon will donate an additional £1 and cover the full cost of the credit card processing fees.

All donations will be distributed to the following Aids charities:

UK: GMFA, Terrence Higgins Trust

USA/CANADA: AMFAR, CANFAR

EUROPE: AIDS Action Europe

We’ve also teamed up with a number of other charities to provide information and links to raise awareness of HIV/Aids, get support, and find out more about safer sex and what to do if things go wrong.

Members can purchase a virtual red ribbon by following the World Aids Day link on this page throughout November and December.

It would be fantastic if we can exceed the number of donators (around 1200) and the total we raised last year. The letters of thanks we got from the charities involved made us incredibly proud to be able to help - albeit in a very small way.

Please give generously
