A bit of background
Listen to some and they'd have you believe that the heyday of New York's gay fetish scene has long since been and gone, but this isn't necessarily true. It may have become less obvious since its prime in the 70s but there are still plenty of kinky options to be found in the city that never sleeps, if you know where to look.
New York's offering for fetish men is decidedly underground these days, however there's certainly no shortage of gay fetish fans looking for a good time, as the number of club nights and events proves.
Top recommended bars and clubs:
• The Eagle – Known as New York's go to gay leather and fetish venue, The Eagle in trendy Chelsea has a different kink on offer every night of the week, including Foot Fetish Mondays, Hanky Tuesdays and Jockstrap Wednesdays, all of which feature a strict dress code. The open-air roof terrace is a great spot for summer cruising.
• Paddles – A BDSM sex club with a host of themed nights for gay fetish men. Also, located in Chelsea, Paddles is the place to go for all-night spanking parties, bondage nights and bears in abundance, plus the infamous NY Bondage Club every Sunday.
• Rockbar – This West Village bar is home to a manly, leather-loving crowd mingling to a background of live rock music. Tongue-in-cheek themed nights include puppy auctions, wet underwear contests and fetish nights where anything goes.
Top recommended events:
• The Black Party – The largest kink and fetish party in New York, the Black Party takes place in March or April at a Brooklyn location disclosed only to ticket-holders a few days before the event. Expect a 5,000 strong crowd gathered to enjoy fetish art and culture, performers and spectacle – dress to impress.
• Folsom Street East – Held in June in Chelsea, FSE is the largest outdoor celebration of everything leather and fetish on America's east coast. Mix with thousands of like-minded fetish men and look forward to top cruising guaranteed.
